The Week in Review and the Week Ahead

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

I was very pleased with our first dual meet of the season.

We had very solid swims throughout the meet. With some state qualifying swims for Jeff and Parker as well as the Medley Relay with Ryan and Konrad joining them. I was also pleased with where our newer swimmers, (Kyle, Nathan, Zach V., Zach G., and Luke) are already as well as some of our young swimmers like Schylar and Caleb.

Our meet also showed some places where we can make some huge improvements.

  • Conditioning - We still have a majority of our athletes getting into shape. This was especially evident at the end of the meet. The good news is, it is an area that naturally improves as the season progresses.
  • Turns -  this is an area that is easy to improve on by just doing them well in practice on EVERY TURN. What you do in practice is what you will do in a meet.
  • Technique - Listening and doing the little things that Ben and I try to correct in practice and then doing them consistently from that point on. What you do in practice is what you will do in a meet.
  • Conditioning - Yep, it's worth mentioning twice. Though it does happen naturally, it can improve more quickly with fewer excuses during sets. What you do in practice is what you will do in a meet.

Meet Splits - The splits and results below show comparisons to lifetime best times. Negative numbers in the right column indicates the amount of time that an athlete has improved in the swim. After our first couple meets, I will only make comparisons to season bests.

SPLITS

THE WEEK AHEAD
With BOC Concerts behind us, we can actually have a normal week this week.
- Normal afternoons Monday through Wednesday (3:20 - 6:00) and Friday (3:30 - 5:30).
- Morning practices Tuesday and Thursday (6:00 - 7:30)

Home Meet vs Ludington - Athletes should be on deck at the Aquatic Center by 5:20. Ludington is coming to town for our annual meet with the Orioles.

LOOKING AHEAD
Christmas Break Practices - We will have swimming practice from 9:00-12:00 throughout Christmas break. There is no practice on the 24th.

(A swimmer who reads this blog and mentions the repeated areas of work, will get a "prize")
