What A GREAT Week for This Team.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Wow! What a great week! A great week of practices and two fantastic meets.
Tuesday's meet vs. Spring Lake was really good with some very solid performances. Definitely our best dual meet to date.

Though I sent them via email, here are the splits from that meet again.

Not that Tuesday wasn't great, but Saturday definitely overshadowed it. With as many new swimmers as we have on this team, I was worried that guys weren't going to be able to get up for this meet. I didn't need to worry. This group continues to grow and improve and Saturday showed the direction we are heading as a team. Lots of guys bumping up against state cuts, and so many others that show the promise that the last have of this season holds.

Saturday showed some amazing improvements. Across the board guys dropped time and our divers had their first opportunity to compete in an 11 dive competition. I was so proud of how all of our athletes handled themselves during this meet. Meets like this depend on extra team work in order to stay focused. It was a great preview to Championship weeks in 6 weeks.

Here are the splits from Saturday's meet.

Though we lightened up just slightly on Friday, Wednesday was a tough practice for distance, stroke, and sprinters and a sign of where practices will be going as we start the 2nd half of the season. We will continue to increase speed for sprint and stroke swimmers and increase pace work for distance swimmers especially.

THE WEEK AHEAD - EXAM WEEK

Exam week kinda' snuck up on me so this information is a bit late in coming.
With exams next week, we are limited to two hours each day. Though I know students don't have as heavy an exam load (due to some Pre-Christmas exams), and they don't really start until Wednesday, with a meet Tuesday evening, the two hour limit is in place for Monday as well.  You are still expected to be at ALL practices. We will drop dryland from our practices for the week. Practices will run from 3:30 and be done promptly at 5:30 for the swimmers.

During exams your school days are shorter, so use that time off as study time. Study efficiently without the some of the media distractions that some of you ofte study with. The time in the pool is a great break from the books and the extra exercise will help your brain think clearer.

Tuesday's meet is home against Unity. Unity has a little smaller team this year and we will be relying heavily on the freshman, sophomores and other newer athletes for this meet.

Saturday's Practice - Breakfast Out: we will have a normal Saturday practice but instead of breakfast being made by parents, we are gonna get breakfast out. We'll figure where later this week. A normal 6-10 dollars for breakfast out.

Monday, January 21 - Athletes have the day off from school. We will practice 9:00-12:00. In order for us to use the locker rooms without disrupting the lessons going on at that time, we have to be in the locker room by 8:40 and on deck by 8:55.

Looking Ahead

Hair Bleaching – Saturday, January 26 is the tentative date for this tradition. As we get closer to the end of the season, hair has become very chlorine damaged and is ready to be cut short for the championship meets. In the mean time, we have some fun with it.  It is a year end team bonding tradition. This is never required but is more fun when most or all of the team participates.

We will be doing this in the locker rooms following the team breakfast on that Saturday. Figure $7-$10 for the people doing the bleaching and few bucks for pizza.

IF YOU ARE A SWIMMER AND READ THUS WHOLE POST, STOP ME BEFORE PRACTICE FOR A "QUIZ" AND A PRIZE.
