Week 6 - Back to School

As we see the end of week six and the beginning of week seven we move from the less routine schedule of our break schedule with the holidays and a new meet and bowling and an annual
intrasquad meet, to the more normal routine schedule of our school days and weeks. Enter Winterim.

Next to our conference and state meets, this is probably the most "important" week of our season. We enter this week anticipating our invitational at the end of the week, yet we have the newness and unknown of the first Winterim at HCHS.

COMMUNICATE
Most of you have communicated with me or Erica about what your week looks like, then again, many of you have no idea what your Winterim classes entail and the teachers teaching them are going through this for the first time as well. The main thing is that you communicate with me as soon as you find out about any unusual plans that may impact a practice or a meet. Communicate means that you email, text, call, send a carrier pigeon, or put  up smoke signals. Whatever it takes. The sooner, the better. I can work through a great number of conflicts, but I need to know about them. So, communicate.

New Years Relays Results
We had a great time today with our annual New Year's Relays. The Swim Reapers won a very close meet in which we saw records fall in the egg nog relay and the sprint relay (by both teams).
The egg nog relay is a matter of some controversy. The team that gets a person that can chug a quart of nog is at a distinct advantage. The chugger seems akin to the DH in baseball. They have no real purpose other than to hit the long ball so everyone else on the team can sit back and relax (no offense Garrett).

You can see the results and our records on the HC Swimming & Diving Top Ten page.

Top Times
Top times to this point of the season - No Splits ("L" indicates relay leadoff).
Top times with splits ("L" indicates relay leadoff, "N" indicates a relay nonleadoff split)

THIS WEEK
Tuesday, Jan. 5th - Meet @ Spring Lake
THIS MEET STARTS AT 6:00 NOT 6:30
We will leave by bus from the Aquatic Center at 4:00 with a north side pick up around 4:15 at Veldheer Tulip Garden (on Quincy just off of US 31). Please let me know ahead of time if you plan on being picked up at this location.

Due to Winterim and the variety of classes/activities associated with it, we will not worry about dressing up for this away meet.

Saturday, January 9th - HOSTING the Division 3 Midseason Invitational - This is a meet we have hosted for several years and it has grown to be one of the premiere meets in the state. We have 8 of the top 10 Division 3 teams in the state, right here in our pool.

Thank you in advance for all of your help with this event.

We can only enter four athletes per event, so many of our athletes will have only two or three events. Some may have just one or two relays.

  • 10:30 - Warmup begins. All athletes should be on deck by 10:10.
  • 10:30 - The stands will open.
  • 12:00 - Meet starts
    • Diving will run simultaneously with swimming.
  • 3:30ish - Meet should wrap up.
LOOKING AHEAD
Hopefully we can get into a normal routine next week.

Tuesday, January 12th - Home Meet vs EGR and Ludington - Athletes need to be on deck by 5:20. The meet starts at 6:30
