Week 8 - The Mid Season Grind

A snow day. A missed practice. An altered meet date at an unusual time. This is just "normal" mid season challenges. This group of guys rolled with it well.

We have a team that loves to push themselves . . . usually. We still have to have that determination as an ongoing indicator of who we are as athletes and as a team.

REMEMBER

WHAT YOU DO IN PRACTICE IS WHAT YOU'LL DO IN COMPETITION

Your actions have a ripple effect. Hmm, come to think of it, that applies a great deal to life in general.

MEET SPLITS
Though the score and the "competition" didn't always look it, we had a great meet on Thursday against EGR. By swimming some different events, the team did exactly what I needed them to do and did it with some times that surprised me. It isn't unusual to see a bit of a slip folloeing our invite, but there is no slip in these guys. Gret Job!!

You can see all of the splits here.

THE UPCOMING WEEK
A "normal" week ahead. I Hope!
The boys are in the midst of a really tough week. There is no substitute for hard work.
Tuesday, Jan 19 at home vs Hamilton. Boys should be on deck by 5:20.

LOOKING AHEAD
Tuesday, Jan 26 at meet at Byron Center. Bus will depart at 4:45 with a stop in Zeeland for those out that direction.
  • As a general rule, I really like the team riding both TO and FROM the meet on the bus together. Anything we can do to build a team is beneficial.

Hair Bleaching – Friday, January 29 is the tentative date for this tradition. As we get closer to the end of the season, hair has become very chlorine damaged and is ready to be cut short for the championship meets. In the mean time, we have some fun with it. It is a year end team bonding tradition.

This is never required but is more fun when most or all of the team participates. I will have a parent release form to make sure that your son is doing this willingly.

Friday - Pizza & Movie Nights  Thanks to the Kanis' for opening up their home for the boys Friday
night. Ellen and I got a great deal of painting done at my parents and all reports are that the boys had a great time at the first pizza night of the season.
Next dates are Feb 5 at the Assink's and Feb 19 at the VanAst's.
