What a meet we had yesterday at the West Michigan Relays! As we talked about afterward, finishing 4th in that field is a big deal for us, and easily the highest finish we've had since I've been coaching the girls team. It's a testament to the depth our team has and the work we've put in so far to get into shape. We're on the right track! Also, we didn't do that by focusing on places, team scores, etc. Rather, we did it by attacking each and every swim with the right attitude and effort. If we can commit to doing that each and every meet, the outcomes will take care of themselves.
The one concern that came out of the meet, which was also discussed afterward, was that our coaching staff had to give multiple reminders throughout the meet for girls who weren't currently competing or getting ready for their event to be on the side and cheering. If we're going to stick together as a family this season, we must be supporting each other in every opportunity that we get. The responsibility for this doesn't fall on on individuals or one group; each one of us must hold everyone else accountable to the expectations that we have for our TEAM.
