It all begins and ends in your mind.
What you give power to, has power over you, if you allow it.
Anon.
As we begin to check off the "lasts" of our season, those start this week with Senior Night, our last home dual meet for the season. I know, it really sneaks up on us! There may be 3 weeks to Conference including this week, but that time will fly. As I mentioned last week, with those realizations should come a sense of urgency on a daily basis...are we doing every little detail possible with the goal of setting ourselves up to reach our end-of-the-season potential?! We've been on a great trajectory...let's keep that up!
Also, as we go throughout the last couple weeks, we need to be careful of what we're giving power to. As we are asked to push our limits, are we treating those things as obstacles or as challenges to push through? Do we worry about certain races or certain dives, or do we frame those positively and get excited about the achievements and possibilities in front of us? How we mentally prepare for the end of our season can have as big of an effect as our physical preparation.
With Parent Teacher Conferences for the high school this week, Ben will miss the last part of Tuesday's practice and all of Wednesday's practice, which Lisa will be covering for. Although CEA is also this week, which has usually allowed for some morning practices later in the week, our afternoon practice schedule will remain standard. Due to the MIAA relays being hosted at the Aquatic Center on Friday (see below for more details on that meet!) and their warm up starting at 4:30, we will be having a combined practice with the Holland girls on Friday. Should be fun!
Thursday 10.20
- SENIOR NIGHT Home vs. Holland
- Athletes on-deck for devotions at 5:10pm
- Meet Warm Up @ 5:20pm. Meet Start at 6:30pm.
- Senior Night introductions will start at 6:20pm
Friday 10.21
- MIAA Relays at the Holland Aquatic Center
- The MIAA (collegiate athletic conference with Hope, Calvin, etc.) begins their swimming and diving competition season with a conference relay meet each year, which this year is being hosted by Hope at the Holland Aquatic Center.
- With many HC alumni now swimming at either Hope or Calvin (Sydney Asselin, Areal Tolsma, Erica Slenk, Emily Slenk, Rachel Alexander, and Steven VanAst), I plan on grabbing a quick sandwich after our Friday practice and sticking around to watch. Hopefully, we'll get a few of our swimmers to stick around too!
- Meet Start 6:00pm.
Saturday 10.22
- Saturday Practice!
- In the water from 9:00 to 11:00am.
- Breakfast to follow, so please plan rides accordingly.
- If you are NOT going to be there because you're taking the ACT, please let Ben know ASAP this week so we can get an accurate count.
