Week Ahead: 12.12 to 12.17

HARD WORKRemember, what you do EACH DAY in the water will determine how well or how poorly you finish the season. EVERYTHING we do is targeted to our final two meets of the year.

You're off to a great start in this regard, but let's keep pushing ourselves.

HEALTH CONCERNS
The idea also impacts how you take care of your health. Colds have been going around this season. Gerrit out for several days, Ross out for over a week, BWalt and others dealing with throat issues, etc.. We have to take care of ourselves.  Last week's post talked a bit about caring for your body during this season. Though I know that you can work as diligently as possible to avoid them, but still catch a cold or the flu. However, it is an expectation, as a member of this team, that you do what you can to help your body out. Coats, hats, shoes and socks are all expected when you are out doors. Sleep, diet, etc. are all part of our expectations as well.

FUEL - Generally, during the season, it's pretty easy to maintain a balance between caloric intake and caloric output. however it is still important to think about the types of calories you're taking in. Healthy eating is an essential part of performing at your best for practices and meets. During the holidays a little indulgence is expected, but during our normal seasonal routine you need to think about the best fuel for your body.

CONGRATULATIONS
Skyler Cook-Weeks and Luke Mason had some great swims this weekend at Junior Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. Skyler had fantastic swims in the 500 (23rd in 4:27. 13), 200 (34th in 1:39.68) and 1650 (26th in 15:43.10). Luke also had a great 200 finishing in a 1:42.60. Luke and Skyler teamed up with fellow MLA swimmers Spencer Carl and Ian Miskelley in the 4x200 Free Relay (finishing 10th), the 4x100 Medley Relay (finishing 17th), and the 4x50 Freestyle Relay (finishing 18th). Way to go guys. You've set the bar high, but let's keep raising it higher.

See last week's post for my thoughts on pool time and study time.

CHRISTMAS BREAK - STAY TUNED
As we look ahead, we need to look at our CHRISTMAS BREAK PRACTICES.
As has been the case for the last few years, my plans are not always what the pool can accommodate. Holland's Coach Soukup and I are negotiating for times with the Aquatic Center. Here is where we are now:

Monday, Dec. 26th, Wednesday, Dec. 28th, and Thursday, Dec. 29th 7-10am
Friday, Dec. 30th 3-6 pm

We have not gotten a schedule for the following week yet but should get things solidified this week.
