"A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work." ~ Colin Powell
We made it through week two and this team is beginning to really do the hard work necessary to achieve some of its goals.
So much of these first two weeks is usually used to develop routines and instill the level of expectation that I have for a group of young men. Tis year however, with the rush to try to get guys in some sort of condition in this shortened season, I feel like I've missed some of the conversations, that would come during team meetings and Saturday morning breakfasts. So, I want to express some of that today.
GOOD HEALTH HABITS
I know that many good health habits have been drilled into our brains for the last year and we are faced daily with the reality of what is necessary for us to do for our health and for the health of others. These habits (including your social distancing, etc.) are especially important if we want to be able to finish our season with a full compliment of athletes.
Beyond what is necessary, there are a couple other things that I want to encourage my athletes to get in the habit of doing.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day as well as at practice. Staying hydrated helps to reduce cramps, etc. but it also helps strengthen the immune system.
- Fuel your body with a proper diet and eliminate junk foods and soft drinks.
- Dress properly for cold weather: Though the cold doesn't cause a cold, your extreme activity during practice cause your immune system to be taxed to help repair damaged muscle tissue. So, you need to cover that head and wear shoes and a coat to give your immune system a helping hand.
- Hat
- Coat
- Shoes
- Get plenty of sleep: For the same reason as dressing for the weather, you need to get proper rest to help your body heal the muscles that you have been pushing hard and damaging in the process.

PARENT HELP
A few parents have stepped up already to cover some of the details of our season.
- Kim Koning is organizing timers. Here's the link to sign up.
- Kristen Assink will be sending out a signup for post practice snacks. These boys need to refuel after practice.
- Karen VanHaitsma is handling senior gifts and I'm sure would appreciate another sophomore or Junior parent to help think about a potential Senior night.
PARKA SALE
We are selling our old parkas. Rather than throwing all of them out, we are selling them for $15 each to raise money for the boys and girls teams. If you would like to order one, here is the link to reserve yours or one for your son.
