Week 11 and the Week Ahead

Growth  -  Resilience  -  Intensity  -  Tenacity

This Team Is Built On It

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. ~ 1 Corinthians 15:58

I can't believe how quickly time is going by. we are three weeks away from conference and five weeks out from State. This season is quickly moving along, but we still have a lot of work to do. The work we do today will have an impact on our results as we go into those championship meets.

As we continue through the season, I see the GROWTH each athlete is making. The INTENSITY that they put into our practices is a sign of that GROWTH. Some on the team have had to find the TENACITY to continue to work through some nagging illnesses and some injuries. I want to encourage them and all the athletes on this team to remain RESILIENT as they continue to face the challenges that the last weeks of the season will surely hold.

THE "SANDY"
Our winner of the gritty performance of the meet from Tuesday's meet goes to Brayden Rynsburger. Brayden's 100 free was his first under the 1:00 mark. But he didn't just sneak in at 59.99, he skipped over 59 to improve his time by 1.87 seconds to 58.46. Keep up the hard work Brayden.

SWIM CAP ORDER - I've put together another silicone swim cap order. You can order them on this form. They are still $15 each.

FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD

Ready for Taper?
During the next three weeks swimmers (Those not qualified for state) begin the taper portion of the season. Taper is that time of the year when workouts change. Yardage decreases while intensity and speed increase with the intent of preparing and "resting" the body for the championship portion of the season. If you want a little more detail about taper, here is a nice little article that explains it well.

Swimmers who choose to should have tights to wear at practice beginning Wednesday the 15th. I suggest tights that are nylon and footless (hemmed at the ankle), not heavy "winter" tights.
Tights are used to enhance drag during taper but heavy winter tights provide too much drag. The footless tights don't unravel during the two weeks or so of swimming with them on.

Pasta Night
To give our athletes the fuel they need for our conference prelims, we will have a pasta meal after our practice on February 23 at Rose Park School. Parents should watch for an email looking for meal help and donations.
