Tonight was one of those meets that was really a mixed bag. Some really good performances mixed in with some really bad performances.
Our youngest and least experienced athletes continue to get stronger, helping them continue to get faster (a 47.5 second drop by Garrett Huizenga for in the 500 for example - his goal was to break 7:00 which he blew past by more than 17 seconds). We had lots of other fantastic swims (Zach, Luke, Jake, Tin, and others) with a total of 19 season bests.
At the same time, we had some really bad looking performances. The truth is that it is very common for this time of year, but it doesn't make it any easier. It could be that we are tired, but we have to find ways to get up for these meets. There is technique that I need to help with for some, some mental toughness for others, and increased endurance for still others, but we can't use our relative inexperience as our excuse any longer.
This team has a strong core of athletes and we have to perform like it no matter where we are competing.

Overall - I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying this group of guys. It is the accomplishments that come at different times for different people that is the most rewarding part of the job.
Don't forget Pizza and a Movie on Friday evening at the Koopman's (tentatively). $5-$7 to cover pizza and drink.
