Holland Results - On Tuesday night, against Holland we swam and dove to 21 season best performances including a new Varsity Record by Parker Cook-Weeks in the 200 Free (1:42.09). We also had some great swims by the law firm of Garrett & Garrett (Huizenga and Hilbelink), as well as Brandon Schreur, and Justin Weener.
As we prepared for that meet, I mentioned that meets like we have against teams like Holland or Zeeland are about "attitude, motivation, and the clock" or the score in the case of our divers. Our Conference has some of the best teams in the state, and those things have to be the driving force behind what we do in the pool and on the board.
This group is starting to perform with those focal points with regularity.
Not that Tuesday wasn't great, but what followed on Thursday night was even better. We had an additional 27 season bests in our meet against Zeeland. Included in those best performances were two state cuts. Congratulations to Ross and Levi for that. A huge accomplishment . . . but don't settle for that as the ultimate accomplishment.
Zeeland Results - As you check out the results you will also see some great swims by James Westenbroek, Michael Sikorski, Bryce Koopman, Jacob Bol, Jake Smith, and Tin Cohadzic. We also had best scores (11 dives) by Dirk, Brad, and Marten. SPECTACULAR!!!
The really fun, great (and somewhat scary) part of these personal bests is that most of them are lifetime bests. I know that nearly half the team is made up of freshman athletes, but even our junior and senior athletes are hitting lifetime bests. If I didn't know what we were doing in practice, I'd be worried that we were not working hard enough, but I know that isn't the case. We have had some of best practices to date.

Further On Up the Road
Senior Night - Feb 12th
Most of the swimmers should have tights to wear at practice beginning on the 13th. I suggest tights that don't have feet (hemmed at the leg), not heavy "winter" tights. I'll explain why in a later post.
