A Great Week of Practices, A National Cut & A New Addition

THIS WEEK'S REFLECTION
Benjamin's Hope was a great way for us to help out an organization and a nice way to build some team unity. Though high school boys had a tendency to spend as much energy throwing snowballs at each other as they did hanging lights and decorations, the team was able to be together and make an initial connection with Benjamin's Hope. My hope is that this and other activities with some of the  becomes part of our team's traditions. You can see some pictures of the guys at the end of the blog.

Congratulations - A huge congratulations to freshman Skyler Cook-Weeks on his great achievement Friday night. Skyler had to drop 11 seconds in the 1650 yard Free to qualify for the National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) meet. Skylar dropped nearly 14 seconds to make that cut time. Way to go Skylar.

Conditioning - We had a really nice week of consistent practices. A few are showing signs of being well conditioned, but, for most, we have a long way to go to be in swimming shape. However, weeks like this are a great way to get there. Weeks like this can be a bit of a grind, but they have huge value when it comes to being able to meet personal goals.

I want to encourage athletes to continue to be encouraged by your progress. Once we get some meets under our belts, we will have a broader view of that progress. Parents, continue to encourage your son. Practices are hard work and an encouraging word can go a long way.

WELCOME A NEW ADDITION - I have been looking for a consistent Assistant Coach for a few years. I have had a few that have been able to help out a bit, but no one that could make the commitment to more than a couple days a week or more than a couple months of the season. That is until now.

Please welcome Ben Mosterd to the HC Aquatics Staff.
Ben is no stranger to HC Swimming & Diving. He graduated from Holland Christian in 2008 where he swam for the Maroons. Ben held our record in the 200 free until last year and is one of only three swimmers at HC to ever swim the 500 under 4:40.

Ben works for Quality Door here in Holland but is able to work his schedule to have a great deal of consistency with our program and would be able to for more than just this season.

I look forward to having Ben on deck with me. His knowledge and passion for swimming will be a huge asset to me and the swimmers here at HC. I will include his contact information in an updated contact sheet coming out this week.

THIS WEEK'S PRACTICE & MEET NOTES: Dec. 8 - Dec. 13
