THIS WEEK'S REFLECTION
Ludington Meet - I don't know if it was the feeling of winning, or the sandwiches on the way up, but Tuesday was a great meet. We had so many great times at a pool that really should not have produced those kinds of results.
We had a total of 13 best times. Though that doesn't seem like a huge number, the times that we dropped on many of these swims were huge numbers. Steve dropped 12 seconds on his 200, Grayson dropped 12 on his 500 to get him below that 6:00 barrier and Matthew almost got there too, dropping nearly 18 seconds in his 500. Curtis, Riley, Peter, and Ross also had significant drops. We also had some significant first swims for Levi, and Bryce with solid swims in the 200 for Levi, and the Fly and Back for Bryce which are certainly not "normal" events for him.
BG also had a significant improvement on the board moving him above divings 200 point barrier.
Ludington Splits
THANKS for the flexibility you have shown through out the season but especially last week with a different practice site for a few days.
HEALTHY END - We have been hit with a few illnesses over the last week. As we
approach the championship portion of our season, it is more important than ever to be aware of the things we need to do to stay healthy and perform at our peak. Back in December I added a post to this blog with health tips. It included all the basics, but had some additional tops to help us stay healthy.
Here is a link to that Health Post - Read it and try to hold to some of the suggestions.

Tuesday's meet @ Zeeland (5:20 ON DECK @ Zeeland West with a 6:30 meet)
WOW! This is our last dual meet for the season. Unbelievable!!
This is one of those meets where everyone will need to get transportation to and from Zeeland West for the meet. Like a home meet, I expect athletes on the deck at Zeeland West ready to go by 5:20 for the 5:30 warmup.

Looking Ahead
Ready for Taper?
During the next two weeks swimmers (Those not qualified for state) begin the taper portion of the season. Taper is that time of the year when workouts change. Yardage decreases while intensity and speed increase with the intent of preparing and "resting" the body for the championship portion of the season. If you want a little more detailabout taper, here is a nice little article that explains it well.
Swimmers should have tights to wear at practice beginning Wednesday the 18th.
I suggest tights that are nylon and footless (hemmed at the ankle), not heavy "winter" tights.
- Tights are used to enhance drag during taper but heavy winter tights provide too much drag. The footless tights don't unravel during the two weeks or so of swimming with them on.
Championship Week's Special Events
- Wednesday, Feb 25th will be our Haircut Day after practice. We can do a wacky design or just a nice short cut, which ever you prefer. It is a nice way to get rid of all that chlorine
- More details to come later.
- Thursday, Feb 26th - Shave Down for swimmers.
- All swimmers will shave down.
- More info to come later.
- Thursday, Feb 26th - Pasta Meal following practice
- Details will be coming soon.

Second Chance Meet at Home (hosted by Holland) Tuesday, March 3
In the past, this has been an optional meet. After several seasons of thought, I've decided that I'd like the entire team to swim this one. It gives athletes a chance to swim some events that they did not get to swim at the Conference meet. This means one ore practice day and one more meet day while fully tapered.
