We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
Aristotle
Overall, we are off to a very solid start. Practices are becoming more consistent as we continue to get into shape, and we're starting to develop some good habits. However, as we're still only 2.5 weeks into the season, we need to continue to focus on building those EXCELLENT habits so they're cemented for the rest of the season. Now that we're more into the true rhythm of our season with school being added to the mix, this excellence needs to be applied to areas outside of the pool to. Are we eating breakfast, constantly fueling throughout the day, and staying hydrated? Are swimmers doing their shoulder exercises daily at home? Are we getting enough sleep each night? Are we staying caught-up on our school work each day? Each one of these factors plays into our more long-term potential...are we doing everything possible so that we can be EXCELLENT come November?!
Here's the info for this week:
Tues 9.1
- Meet HOME vs. Spring Lake
- Athletes need to be on-deck at 5:15pm for Devotions.
- Warm Up @ 5:30pm. Meet Starts @ 6:30pm.
- Be SURE to eat plenty between lunch and our warm up time. A 6:30pm too far away from lunch to rely on energy from that meal alone. Many girls will get a Subway sandwich or something of the like after school. Bottom line: make sure you're fueled up and ready to go!
Thur 9.3
- Football Cleanup
- This is the first of three nights that we will be helping to clean up the stadium area after a home football game. For each game, we receive a significant amount of money from the school to put in our team fund, so this provides an easy fundraiser for us.
- The more volunteers we get, the faster it goes! I think our record from last year was just under 20 minutes. Gloves will be provided.
- If your family has a leaf blower, please bring it! These help to speed up cleaning off the bleachers.
Fri 9.4
- TIME CHANGE
- Practice will be from 10:30am to 12:45pm at the Aquatic Center.
Mon 9.7
- PRACTICE AT HAMILTON: 6:00 to 8:00pm.
- This is a joint practice with the Lady Hawkeyes.
- As this is on Labor Day, it is technically an optional practice. However, with a meet the very next day, attendance is highly encouraged. Having three days off and then going into a meet is not ideal.
- Hamilton's pool is attached to West end of the middle school on 136th Ave.
