More than the results though, it's all the little moments that make the weekend truly special. Gabby giving up their tie for 16th to Katie was an incredible act of selflessness, which was so fun to witness (lots of tears all around!). Seeing the post-race reactions and the joy of teammates celebrating with their sister. Watching the final warm up of the season. Watching people step up for their last swim of the season. Funny conversations on deck. Experiencing the last team huddle. Listening to our parents to absolutely crazy up in the stands! I could go on and on, and will probably be processing it for the rest of the week, honestly...
The two things I keep coming back to is the hard work that was put in during our season and well before then, and witnessing our awesomely supportive parents. What's fun for me is to see people's hard work truly pay off. Knowing where people have come from, especially watching seniors finish their high school career out, is such a blessing to witness, knowing the yards upon yards of work that has gone into those four years. And, I'm simply blown away by our supportive parents. They're crazy (tail-gating in line starting at 6:00am?!) and simply the best overall cheering section we could ask for, which makes the meet just plain fun.
Thanks for everything you all have put into our 2016 season. To paraphrase Hannah Douthitt, I think we did the thing good.
