The way we anticipate a situation
will strongly influence how we engage in it.

A gold medal is a wonderful thing.
But if you're not enough without one,
you'll never be enough with one.
~Irv Blitzer (from the movie Cool Runnings)
Four more practices and then we're on deck at our home pool for the D3 State Meet. Obviously, it's a big meet, and the last one... I chose the first quote as a reminder of where our attitudes should be this week. There's no place for doubt, or fear, or stress, or worry, or wondering. We have pushed ourselves throughout the season and have made lots of progress. We must be CONFIDENT in the work that we've put in and be CONFIDENT in our ability to put forth 100% effort each and every time we step up to compete this weekend. We've done this at every meet up to this point, so now it's a HABIT and something we can be certain of...no questions asked! We need to anticipate this weekend with joy and excitement and faith.
I chose the second quote (one of my favorites) for this week because it's tempting to get wrapped up in some of the outcomes of the state meet. However, regardless of what happens, we need to remind ourselves that we are ALREADY enough. As athletes, we've pushed through a season that started way back in the middle of August, persevering through tough times, tackling challenges, and learning more about ourselves as we constantly strive to improve. As a TEAM, we've grown together, laughed plenty, cried some, and pushed each other. And, most importantly, as Christians, we are one of God's BELOVED children, and that fact should trump everything else. We. Are. ENOUGH.
Moreover, we need to remember that we've had a successful season (4th at WM Relays, some big dual meet wins, and FIRST at Conference (!!!)) not because we've built up expectations for certain outcomes, but because we've taken our journey one step, one swim, one dive at a time. This weekend is no different. We need to prepare ourselves for each effort, give each effort our all, let the results come, and in the mean time just enjoy being together as a team and doing something that we love. This weekend gets to be a FUN exclamation-point at the end of an already successful journey!
One final, lengthy post to read! Enjoy...

Important News/Notes
- As we will be missing school on Friday, you need to communicate with each of your teachers AHEAD OF TIME to get your assignments that will be due the following Monday. You will still be responsible for handing those in on-time. Also, make sure to ask when you should turn in any assignments that are due this Friday; some teachers may require you to turn them in on Thursday, which is their right to request.
- As I mentioned earlier for the Conference swimmers, we need to make sure that we're doing everything we can to stay rested up throughout the week. Get enough/extra sleep and avoid adding extra vigorous physical activities. If you have a question about something that you're doing, employ the motto "when in doubt, leave it out". For those who are taking PE classes right now, I have emailed the PE teachers requesting that you be allowed to sit out for physical testing, running, etc.
- Swimmers will be shaving-down at home on Thursday night.
- Between warm up and the actual meet, each day of State will be 5+ hours long. Each day, be sure to bring PLENTY of snacks and a couple water bottles or other drinks so that you can stay fueled-up throughout each session.
- Each swimmer needs to bring a pair of comfortable, broken-in tennis shoes to wear on-deck during the meet on both Friday and Saturday. Walking around barefoot on a hard-surfaced pool deck for five hours is more draining than you would expect. Please clean the soles beforehand so we're not tracking dirt everywhere.
- Money
- There will also be t-shirts for sale, so be prepared with extra cash is you'd like to purchase one of those as well.

For Finals on Saturday, the first heat will be the Consolation Finals (9-16) and the second heat will be the Championship Finals (Top 8).
- Diving: Divers will do 8 dives for prelims on Friday evening. Those who are in the Top 16 after 8 will complete their final 3 dives on Saturday in the normal diving spot of the meet.
