Week Ahead: 1.16 to 1.21

What can I say after yesterday? WOW!! I'm so impressed with this group of young men. With 8 weeks under our belts, we have officially passed the half way point of our season. With 6 weeks left before conference and 8 weeks to state, yesterdays meet was a great measuring stick of the group.

This meet had so many high points as is evidenced in the seasonal improvements, I have so many spots on the goals sheet that I can't keep up with it. Our young swimmers continue to improve. Those swimmers who have been bumping against state cuts have achieved some of those goals, and our more experienced swimmers are achieving lifetime bests as well. All of these achievements are evidence of the hard work everyone is putting in and trusting the process.

HEALTH CONCERNS - A Reminder

COLDS & FLU - This time of year, unseasonably warm days sliding in and out of the normal cold winter days and a mix of rain and snow come and go. It is the kind of weather that helps bring in colds and flu that can wipe you out for 7-10 days if you're not careful. So I thought I would give a little reminder of good health habits.

Here is some general good health habits during cold and flu season.
  • Clean your hands - Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth - Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs, then touches his/her eyes, nose or mouth.
Below are a couple articles with some ideas about how to help prevent, or at least fight off colds and flu.

Supplements that can help.

Some additional homeopathic ideas

Though the cold does not cause a cold, there is plenty of scientific evidence that exposure to the cold taxes your body's immune system. Add to that the work each athlete is doing in the pool and your body is just waiting for those cold and flu germs to take over

Ten ways to avoid cold and flu. Note the section on "Staying warm" and dressing for the weather.
