The Week Ahead: 9.11 to 9.16

Excellence is never an accident.
It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution;
it represents the wise choice of many alternative –
choice, not chance, determines your destiny.
Aristotle

Overall, we had a solid week last week: a more-energetic dual meet on Thursday and plenty of good swims and dives at West Michigan Relays on Friday night and Saturday. We're on the right path, but we're now at the point of the season where comfort can start to set in. We're getting into decent shape, we're getting used to the routines of our days and our weeks, and thus it can become easy to slip into automatic mode and coast through things without a lot of intentionality. Are we really focusing when doing through dryland? Are we really paying attention to underwaters and stroke counts and times during practice, whether specifically asked to or not? Are we really pushing our limits on dives and some of the smaller details that go into them? If we're going to truly chase excellence this year, we can't afford to coast through our days. Every time we go to push off, every time we step up on to the board, we have to do so with the utmost intentionality and focus...those little, constant choices have a bigger affect on our path than we can ever imagine.
