When I was young, I observed that nine out of ten things I did were failures. So I did ten times more work. ~ George Bernard Shaw
As the calendar turns to February, the sudden realization that we have just a few weeks to Conference. We talk at the beginning of the season about how taper starts TODAY. The idea that every action, every practice leads to the end of the season push to taper. For those unfamiliar, "taper" is an intentional reduction in the yardage and effort in the water with the anticipation of the championship meet. Though we are a couple weeks from the actual taper, the realization that the yards we worked and the yards we missed are quickly coming to the point where they pay their dividend. We continue to see improvements in our performances and we continue to see areas where improvements can still be made. As George Bernard Shaw points out in the opening quote above, it is hard work that gets us where we want to be in many of our goals. Are you working harder than the guys in your lane? Harder than the guys you'll be competing against in the next meet? We need to continue to put in the effort that prepares us for the championship portion of our season.
