Born For This
For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the Lord, and he ponders all his paths ~ Proverbs 5:21
Championship Season is here. It's that time of year when the days and weeks of tremendously hard work comes to its fruition. The completion of a season is always bitter sweet. The thrill of achieved goals, of team victories, and of personal accomplishment is always amid the backdrop of what I know is an end to a great deal of hard work and the team bond that comes from that hard work. So, let's finish this season in a way that makes the work worthwhile.
I'm proud of each of you. Everyone of you has contributed to this team. It isn't always easy to see the impact each of you makes in a community when you you're in the midst of a specific time period (like a swim season). We can't always see that we are "Born for This" when our skill sets may be less obvious than some others. But each part of the community, the team, the body in the midst of a specific challenge is just as important as the other parts. I'm proud of HOW each of you has contributed to this team.
CONFERENCE WEEK
- As I mentioned before, we need to make sure that we're doing everything we can to stay rested up throughout the week. Get enough/extra sleep and avoid adding extra vigorous physical activities. If you have a question about something that you're doing, employ the motto "when in doubt, leave it out".
- At the meet, between warm up and the actual meet, each day of Conference will be 4+ hours long. Each day, be sure to bring plenty of snacks and a couple water bottles or other drinks so that you can stay fueled-up throughout each session. On Friday and Saturday, eat a good breakfast (much more than just a piece of toast!).
- Each swimmer needs to bring a pair of comfortable, broken-in tennis shoes to wear on-deck during the meet on both Friday and Saturday. Walking around barefoot on a hard-surfaced pool deck for five hours is more draining than you would expect. Please clean the soles beforehand so we're not tracking dirt everywhere.
