Week #11 - LET'S GO !!

THE BEGINNING OF THE END

First, thanks to so many of you who offered words of love and encouragement as I dealt with my moms health and passing. She was so ready for the the end, knowing that it lead to her new beginning.

This week also offers up the beginning of the end of years of hard work in the pool and on the board as our seniors face the end of their final season for our program. It is also the beginning of the end of my final season. But with these endings there is also the promise of new beginnings for everyone. My word for this year is potential. I'm hoping that the new beginning brings great potential for each of us.

This the beginning of the end but WE ARE NOT DONE YET. We have lots to do and need to work on in the mean time.

Our great meet against Holland on Tuesday is posted on You can see the season improvements for both meets at the Results Page.

GRITTY AWARDS - Sorry, I didn't get any awards this week following our meet with Holland.

FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD

Ready for Taper?
During the next three weeks swimmers (Those not qualified for state) begin the taper portion of the season. Taper is that time of the year when workouts change. Yardage decreases while intensity and speed increase with the intent of preparing and "resting" the body for the championship portion of the season. If you want a little more detail about taper, here is a nice little article that explains it well.

Swimmers who choose to should have tights to wear at practice beginning Wednesday the 18th. I suggest tights that are nylon and footless (hemmed at the ankle), NOT leggings like you might for outdoor running and NOT heavy "winter" tights. Tights are used to enhance drag during taper but heavy winter tights provide too much drag. The footless tights don't unravel during the two weeks or so of swimming with them on.

Pasta Night
To give our athletes the fuel they need for our conference prelims, we will have a pasta meal after our practice on February 27. Details will be coming soon. Parents should watch for an email looking for meal help and donations.

We are HOSTING our Conference Championship February 28 and March 1.
